Dear Constituent,
Two years ago you elected me to serve as the first representative of Ward 8 in over 50 years. Since that humbling time, I have strived represent your concerns on the City Council, and fight for our neighborhoods as Springfield moves forward.
Two years ago, I promised to make constituent services a top priority. Since my election I have continued to take all my calls personally. I have worked to assist constituents on issues such as traffic safety, public schooling, and red tape at City Hall. I have been proud to support the small businesses in my ward, guiding them through the permitting process and ensuring smooth transitions as they join our community. I have been proud to maintain a strong working relationship with each of the neighborhood councils in Ward 8 to keep me in contact with my constituents.
In addition, when you elected me two years ago, I pledged to defeat the proposed biomass incinerator in East Springfield. Since that time, I have worked closely with my fellow City Councilors and public advocacy groups such as Stop Toxic Incineration in Springfield to educate our community about the dangers that biomass incineration posed to the health of our residents, children, and seniors. In May I led the fight on the City Council to revoke the incinerators permit, and am proud to say we successfully did so.
Public Safety was another issue that I campaigned on in 2008. Since you elected me, I have worked closely with the Springfield Police Department, and am proud to announce that I am endorsed by the Springfield Police Patrolman’s Union. I have also fought against illegal dumping, sponsoring a city ordinance to hike the fines to up to $10,000 for individuals who choose to dump in our community. I continue to advocate for a return to community policing, and improved community/police relations.
I have consistently fought to cut government waste and make our city more efficient. I was proud to collect over $350,000 in unpaid taxes that were owed to Springfield. I voted to cut $2.1 million dollars in waste from our city budget, and have continued to review city departments to eliminate waste and excess spending.
On November 8th you will again elect a representative from Ward 8 to the Springfield City Council. My record over the last two years has shown consistent dedication to you and your neighbors, and I am humbled to once again ask for your vote, and your trust, in the upcoming election, so that I can continue fighting for you. As always you can contact me personally at (413) 342 – 9232 or online at www.votelysak.com
Sincerely,
John A. Lysak
Springfield City Councilor
Ward 8
