Indian Orchard

The Orchard is one of the most distinct neighborhoods in the City, and one of Johns favorites as well.

John sees great opportunity and potential in the orchard, take some time to learn about his work on the Council to advance opportunities, save historic landmarks, and encourage development in Indian Orchard.

Springfield's OTHER Riverfront

Councilor Lysak stands on the bank of the Chicopee River in Indian Orchard.

When you think Springfield Riverfront, most peoples minds go to the Connecticut River. But John has another vision.

The Indian Orchard Chicopee Riverfront offers beautiful views, opportunity for boating and fishing, and the potential for much, much more.

"One day, condos and office space could grace this riverfront. It would open up a whole new development opportunity to the Orchard" says Councilor Lysak.

The Artists at Indian Orchard Mills is a great development already on the banks of the river. John hopes to see more cultural developments such as this, as well as the reuse of historic buildings such as the Mills.

Immaculate Concepcion Church

When the Catholic Diocese announced that Immaculate Concepcion Church would be one of 14 parishes to close, residents of Indian Orchard were devastated.

Councilor Lysak worked tirelessly to help save both the physical church and the congregation.

Although not a member of the church, John understood the importance of Immaculate Concepcion to the community.

When other city officials pushed back, John carried on. While assisting in the mobilization of the neighborhood into vigils, Councilor Lysak also sponsored legislation to make Immaculate Concepcion its own historic district, protecting the building from demolition or other exterior harm.

Above, John presents Carolina Bobala with a proclamation from the City Council recognizing her and the Save Immaculate Conception Church Committee for their hard work done to save their parish at their Annual Dozynki Polish Festival. John was proud to be a volunteer and sponsor of the American Kitchen at the event.

 Indian Orchard Citizens Council

John understands the importance of neighborhood councils as a grassroots form of organizing and an opportunity to receive feedback from his constituents.

John maintains an excellent working relationship with the Indian Orchard Citizens Council, and has worked with them on several events such as the National Night Out and several tornado drives in wake of the recent disaster.
