John was the earliest and strongest opponent of the proposed Biomass incinerator on the City Council. Since before his election, John spoke out against the incinerator, working to expose the serious health and environmental risks that it would pose to the residents of Springfield.
After his election, Councilor Lysak worked to bring the special permit for the incinerator back before the Council, ultimately resulting in the revocation of that permit, effectively stopping the incinerator from being constructed.
John was proud to vote YES on the revocation of the special permit.
In addition, John spent countless hours studying the project, attending public hearings, and meeting with constituents regarding the issue.
As the representative from the Ward where the incinerator would have been constructed, John stands by his decision to revoke the permit.
In light of the recent lawsuit filed by the developer, Councilor Lysak has worked to keep his constituents informed of the content and status of the lawsuit, and was the first Councilor to set the record straight on what the lawsuit meant for Springfield. He is confident in the legality of the Councils decision and believes we will win in court.

While the burning of construction and demolition debris and green wood does create a small amount of electricity, it also releases a massive amount of pollution. This pollution, 221 tons a year, would pose serious health risks to the residents of Springfield and the surrounding communities.
