Fiscal Responsibility

John understands the importance of saving your tax dollars. Since joining the City Council, John has made every effort to cut waste from the budget, and discourage irresponsible spending.

The Budget

During the 2012 fiscal debates John was a strong voice for fiscal restraint. With an eye on maintaining essential city services, John scanned the budget for wasted funds. By the end of the debates, approximately 2.7 million dollars had been cut from the budget by eliminating redundancy and unnecessary spending.

Correcting Tax Errors

While researching a separate issue, Councilor Lysak discovered $330,000 in unpaid excise taxes by local car dealerships.

John understands the importance of efficiency in our assessors office and demanded answers as to how this type of mistake could have been made.

Innovative Ideas

While others proposed layoffs and furlough days to balance the budget, Councilor Lysak attempted to introduce an early retirement plan for city employees. Rather then eliminate a position, John proposed offering early retirement to senior city employees, leading to a reduction in the payroll.

Innovative ideas like these are what is needed in government today to move our city forward.
