John knows that Public Safety is at the forefront of his constituents minds. Since his election, John has taken several steps to make Ward 8 and the City of Springfield a safer place for our families.
In March of 2011, Councilor Lysak proposed an ordinance to ban the sale of K2 Synthetic Marijuana, or "Spice", in the City of Springfield.
The "marijuana alternative" was being sold in local convenience stores as a legal alternative to marijuana, but was known to cause cocaine-like highs and had resulted in several deaths throughout the nation.
The ordinance was adopted. Read more about it at WWLP 22 News-

John understands the environmental and quality of life burden that illegal dumping poses in the City of Springfield. In response to citizens concerns, Councilor Lysak introduced legislation on the Council to hike illegal dumping fines to $5,000 for civil offenses and $10,000 for criminal offenses.
The legislation passed and was signed by the Mayor. Read more about it at masslive.com -

In response to neighborhood concerns regarding the use of "jake bakes" by trucks on Councilor Lysak supported an ordinance to regulate this quality of life nuisance.
John understands that communication between the community and the police department is key to reducing crime. John makes it appoint to attend the monthly sector beat meetings and encourages residents to attend and report their concerns to the police department. John is happy to hear concerns from his constituents regarding making Ward 8 safer for all, and to communicate that information to the police department.
John is a strong believer in Community Policing. Currently, the Springfield Police Department does not utilize a true Community Policing program. John wants to bring that program forward in Springfield. He believes Community Policing leads to a stronger bond between Police Officers and residents, resulting in better communication and a safer community.
Councilor Lysak understands the importance of watching out for your neighbors.
In October 2010 John stopped the robbery of a small business in Indian Orchard.
